The Basic CATCH PE Lesson is as follows:

  1. Warm-up 3-5 minutes:  Prepares the body for vigorous activity to follow, as well as reduces the likelihood of injury.  This include: walking, slow-paced aerobics, stretching, and light jogging.
  2. Go Fitness 5-12 minutes:  Emphasizes fitness components associated witha healthy lifestyle: cardiovascular efficency, muscular strength, flexibility, wellness and nutrition.
  3. Go Activity 10-15 minutes:  To create interest, improve skills, foster fair play, have fun, encourage participation in movement and physical activity.  This section features activity which develop fundamental skills associated with sports and recreation.
  4. Cool-Down:  Involves tapering the level of intensity to help children's bodies return to a normal level.  This is an excellent time to review instructional cues and strategies, reinforce positive behavior, obtain feedback from the class, and provide lesson closure.  Examples included:  stretching, walking, and playing the GO Activity in slow motion.

FITNESS GRAM Centers of Excellence Project:
The purpose of the project is to evaluate changes in the physical activity and physical fitness levels in our school.  The Cooper Institute and research staff has been collaborating and assisting our school in developing a more effective physical activity promotion program.

The FITNESS GRAM program will provide our school with an effective way to track and monitor levels of the physical fitness and activity in children.
